How to Improve low self esteem
We all have reflections of who we are and how we project to other people. Yes, reflections of ourselves just like the reflection we see when we face ourselves in front of the mirror. This can be both good and bad. But the reflection we see in front of the mirror is very different from the reflection of who we are as a person and how we project to others for the former shows only our appearance while the latter comes from within.
Here, we can say that there are basically two kinds of people: people who have reflections of healthy self-esteem and the people who have reflections of low self-esteem.
Oftentimes, people seeing themselves negatively are those who have low self-esteem. This can be rooted on several things but the most common is the experiences acquired during childhood. Many people who experience low self-esteem are abused, treated harshly, beaten, ignored, teased, ridiculed, and criticized for their work and inabilities.
The reflection, which comes from within would then become a hindrance to improve and to practice social life. This would also disable people from their ability to show what they got and the capacity to shine.
Low self-esteem therefore is a major problem that must be reversed immediately.
Since low self-esteem comes from within, changes in order to improve it must come from within as well. The person must first recognize that he has low self-esteem and realized that something must be done to remove it from his system.
The task may be great but the principles are simple. Here are they:
1. Recognize that you have your own capabilities, importance, and uniqueness. For you with low self-esteem, it may be the hardest thing to do. But once you realize these things, everything will follow.
2. Think positively and avoid thinking all the negative things that have happened in your entire life. Shortcomings do come but they also go. Instead on focusing on thinking and feeling sorry for the shortcomings that come your way, consider it as a part of daily experience.
3. Lower down your expectations. Goals must be achieved. But it does not mean that the roads are always leading to achievements. Many times, you will suffer defeat and many times, you will fell that you are about to breakdown. What you should do is to lower down your expectations. Do not aim for perfection, instead, aim for achievement.
4. Do not be afraid to take a risk. Exploring new things will let you discover more from you. Give yourself a credit if you have acquired new skills.
5. Contribute and participate. Most people with low self-esteem choose to stay at the darker side of the room where no one can see them. This is very unhealthy if you want to boost your self-esteem. Contribute ideas and talent to the activities presented in you. This will not only improve your skill but also improve the way to interact with other people.
6. Live healthily. Treating yourself well will make you feel good about yourself. Get enough rest. Eat healthy foods. Exercise regularly. Have fun. Enjoy everyday of your life. Spend time with other people and relax. Never put yourself on hold. Continue improving. Do not stop learning. And most of all… think positively and give positive outlook on life.
