Dealing with Low Self-Esteem: A Self-Help Guide

Low self-esteem is a psychological problem the attacks the emotions, beliefs, and feelings of the person to become passive. It affects the personal outlook of man to life and in turn, affects his outlook on other people around him. There are several characteristics of a person with low self-esteem. Some of these could appear on his treatment to himself while some could become very evident on the way he looks at other people and the way he thinks of how others look at him.

To be specific, a person with low self-esteem has the following characteristics: overly conscious about what image they project on other people, unwillingness to take on challenges, blaming everything on themselves, unwillingness to assume responsibilities, less social conformity, lack self-confidence, emotional confusion, anxiety, and depression.

If you have one or many of the mentioned characteristics, you might be suffering from low self-esteem. Though this is neither a decease nor contagious, actions must be done in order to transform your self to a person with healthy self-esteem. Now, how do you do that?

First, you should realize and acknowledge that you have a low self-esteem. A person who could not accept his problem and could not realize that he has low self-esteem would not be able to deal with it.

Then, you have to identify your weaknesses. Which of the mentioned characteristics reside in you? After you have answered this, you know what are the things you can do. How? By simply taking the opposite of who you are. For example, you are the type of person who is afraid to take responsibility. Deal with it by starting to take little responsibility. Start within. Take small responsibility you think you can do. Once you have dealt with it, take another one, and another. Then, work your way outward. As you take on one responsibility after another, you are gaining confidence, which by the way is something you also lack.

It is also good to set goals. Start with simple goals you can easily achieve. Then, you can set bigger and more challenging goals.

If you happen to have 2 or more of the mentioned characteristics, start by focusing on one. You should realize that all these are interrelated. So if you deal with one, you will surely deal with the rest.

Deal with your low self-esteem by treating yourself well. Never punish yourself with wrong thoughts because most of the time, these are only false impressions you have created on your own. Never focus on the negative things. Instead, focus on thinking positively.

Treat yourself right by getting enough rest, eating regularly and healthily, doing regular exercise, and giving yourself treats after you have done something good. Pamper yourself.

Give yourself the chance to have fun. Do something exciting for the day.

If you think you have deeper problem, seek help from a professional or talk to other people. If you have problem with sharing to other people, start on your closest friends or people who are willing to listen to you.

Do not make things worst by keeping everything on your own. Start opening up with other people. Making good relationship is another way to deal with it. Remove the thought that you are not good enough to others. Do not feel inferior.

These are just some of the numerous ways on how to deal with your low self-esteem but these can be everything you need. Good luck!
